Global Undergraduate Exchange Program for FY 2010


The Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy is pleased to announce the opportunity to compete for the 2010 Global Undergraduate Exchange Program (Global UGRAD Program) which is sponsored by the Educational and Cultural Affairs Office of the U.S. Department of State.

The Global UGRAD Program will provide one-semester and academic-year scholarships to outstanding undergraduates for non-degree programs at accredited U.S. institutions. Scholarships will be available in all academic fields of study except Medicine, Nursing, Veterinary medicine, and Pharmacology.

The length and start date of the scholarship award will depend upon the applicant's interests, the need for pre-program English language training, as well as placement option and availability of funds. Students accepted into the full academic year program will travel to the U.S. for the fall 2010. Students accepted into the one-semester program will travel for the fall 2010 or in the winter (January) 2011.

Eligible applicants must:

Be currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree program and who will have completed their first year of undergraduate study prior to starting their UGRAD Program.
Have at least one semester or an equivalent term to complete at their home institutions upon completion of their UGRAD Program. The UGRAD semester or academic year must not be the last academic term of their undergraduate study.
Be highly motivated non-elite or less-privileged undergraduate students who demonstrate leadership through academic work, community involvement, and extracurricular activities.
Have a good knowledge of English with minimum TOEFL score of 500 or 173 on Computer based TOEFL, 61 on Internet-based TOEFL.
Have no previous study experience in the United States.
Participants should also be 24 years or younger at the time of application.
Application Instructions

Interested students who do not already have an official TOEFL score of 500 or above should plan to take the Institutional TOEFL Practice (ITP) on September 26, and October 17, 2009 at the Royal University of Phnom Penh. Registration for the ITP is available through the Educational Advising Center at RUPP (room 103) from Monday-Friday, with a registration deadline of September 21, and October 12 2009. Students receiving a 500 or above on the TOEFL or ITP are invited to apply for the Global UGRAD Program. The application and detailed instructions are available here (DOC - 107 KB). Applicants must submit all required supporting documents and test score reports directly to the Public Affairs Section, U.S. Embassy Phnom Penh at #1, Street 96, Sangkat Wat Phnom, by November 13, 2009.
